The Cold Case Unit
A Cold Case Unit would utilize DNA technology to review and solve old murder, sexual assault and other cases where forensic evidence exists. Currently, there are more than 200 murder and more than 2,000 sexual assault cases that go unsolved in DeKalb County. The Police Department needs legal help to solve these scientifically complex cases.
A Cold Case Unit would allow us to dedicate highly-trained personnel to work with the Police Department to solve these crimes which would possibly prevent future assaults by these offenders. Other local District Attorney Offices have been successful in using the advances in DNA technology to solve and obtain convictions for old crimes.
Adding to the District Attorney’s Office an attorney, investigator and support staff to the resources currently devoted by the Police Department would allow all of us to build strong cases, obtain more convictions and obtain long deserved justice for victims.
